When we are talking about air freshener, absolutely we will refer to Perfume that functions to refreshing the air in a certain room or place. In ancient Javanese, people at that time had their own way to make their house fresh with sweet smells. Maybe it is very different way of today’s kind of air freshener. A long time ago, before Javanese did not know yet about technology, they were using some particular flowers in order to make their homes or rooms smell good. They just needed to pick some tuberose flowers (Sedap Malam) or jasmines and put them down on some spots in the house.
After all, the flowers will spread their scents over the whole parts of the house. The Perfume of tuberose flowers has some strength. One of them is this kind of flowers will leave the strongest fragrance at night. That is why it is called Sedap Malam in Indonesian since this flower has a meaning that it spreads its strongest fragrance at night. Another flower that can be used as natural air freshener is jasmine. Jasmine has special fragrance that is very elegant and its scent is long lasting. And this makes this kind of flower becomes another choice in making house smelly great.
Those natural Perfumes that were used in the history of Java no longer use in this present day because of the enhancement of technology and science. Nowadays, when people want to refresh their home, they just need to buy air freshener spray and spray it to the whole parts of home.
